Estrogen Receptor 1 (ER1) is one of two subtypes of estrogen receptors, proteins that play a critical role in the functioning of estrogen, a hormone found in both men and women. ER1 is mainly found in the nucleus of cells where it functions as a transcription factor, regulating the expression of genes involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival. ER1 activity is also linked to the risk of developing breast cancer, and selective modulators of ER1 can be used as therapies for the treatment of this disease.
