General Description
PPIA encodes cyclophilin A (CypA), a peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase that catalyzes protein folding and acts as a secreted, cytokine-like factor in inflammation. It is hijacked as a co-receptor by several viruses (including HIV) and is the target of immunosuppressive drugs such as cyclosporin A. Its extracellular signaling role and pathogen interactions make PPIA a diagnostic marker of inflammation and a candidate host-factor/vaccine-adjuvant target.
