The Herpes Simplex Virus, also known as HSV, have two members, Herpes simplex virus 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2). HSV 1 or 2 is an infection that causes herpes worldwide. However, the majority of them remain undiagnosed because they are asymptomatic or unrecognized. HSV-1 is mainly transmitted by oral to oral contact to cause infection in or around the mouth (oral herpes), and are acquired during childhood. While HSV-2 is generally responsible for genital herpes outbreaks. And it is lifelong and incurable.

The structure of Herpes Simplex Virus consists of four distinct components: the core, capsid, tegument, and envelope. HSV type 1 and HSV type 2 each contain at least 74 ORFs within their genomes, which encode a variety of proteins involved in forming the capsid, tegument and envelope of the virus, as well as controlling the replication and infectivity of the virus.
