Amyloid β-Peptide 1-42 (human) is a 42-amino-acid fragment derived from the Amyloid Precursor Protein (APP). It has a propensity to self-aggregate into oligomers and fibrils, with the oligomeric form being the most neurotoxic. These aggregates accumulate as amyloid plaques—a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease—disrupting cellular function, causing mitochondrial dysfunction, and triggering neuronal cell death through mechanisms involving oxidative stress, calcium dysregulation, and inflammation.
