General Notes
This product (Catalog No. CABT-L1597W) is a rabbit-derived monoclonal antibody raised against human ABAT, targeting the amino acid region 20–80 of the protein. This antibody exhibits cross-reactivity with Human ABAT from mouse and rat. It has been affinity purified by Protein A. The ABAT gene encodes the enzyme 4-aminobutyrate aminotransferase, also known as GABA transaminase, which catalyzes the conversion of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)—the principal inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system—into succinic semialdehyde for further metabolism in the tricarboxylic acid cycle. Located on chromosome 16p13.2, ABAT consists of 23 exons spanning approximately 110 kb and produces a 500-amino-acid protein that forms a homodimeric complex with pyridoxal-5'-phosphate as a cofactor, exhibiting high activity in brain and liver tissues. This enzyme is essential for regulating GABA levels by facilitating its breakdown when not required for neurotransmission, thereby preventing excessive inhibition of neuronal activity and maintaining balanced brain signaling. ABAT also contributes to mitochondrial nucleoside metabolism, supporting nucleotide salvage pathways that preserve mitochondrial DNA integrity, particularly in non-dividing cells like neurons. Disruption of ABAT function leads to GABA accumulation in cerebrospinal fluid and brain tissue, detectable via proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy, alongside elevated beta-alanine levels that alter neurotransmitter balance.
CABT-L1597W is suitable for use in Western blot (WB) (1:500–1:2,000), IHC-P (1:100–1:500), IHC-F (1:100–1:500), IF (immunofluorescence) (1:100–1:500), IP (1:20–1:50) applications.
CABT-L1597W is supplied as a liquid formulation in 10mM phosphate buffered saline(pH 7.4) with 150mM sodium chloride, 0.05% BSA, 0.02% Proclin300 and 50% glycerol. For long-term storage, keep at −20 °C. For short-term use, store at 2–8 °C. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles to maintain antibody integrity and performance.
