Unopened ampoules should be stored at -20°C.

Reconstitution

Dissolve the total contents of the ampoule in 1.0 ml of sterile distilled water. The concentration is then 1000 International Units per ml. For further dilution, include carrier protein. No attempts should be made to weigh out ant portion of the freeze-dried material.

Introduction

HIV-1 p24 is a core capsid protein encoded by the gag gene of Human immunodeficiency virus type 1. It forms the conical capsid structure that encloses the viral RNA genome and associated enzymes, playing a critical role in viral assembly, maturation, and infectivity. p24 is highly conserved and abundantly produced during early infection, making it a key biomarker for diagnosis. Detection of p24 antigen in blood is widely used in fourth-generation HIV assays, allowing earlier identification of infection before the appearance of anti-HIV antibodies.
