p27 is the major internal capsid protein of Enzootic Nasal Tumor Virus (ENTV), a betaretrovirus of sheep and goats that induces enzootic nasal adenocarcinoma. It corresponds to the group-specific antigen (Gag) protein and is analogous to p24 of many other retroviruses. p27 is highly conserved and strongly immunogenic, making it a useful marker for detecting ENTV infection and for differentiating it from other small ruminant retroviruses in serological assays.
