General Description

The bacterial ribosome, as being essential for protein synthesis in bacterial cells, is targeted by many antibiotics. Clindamycin and pirlimycin, are semi-synthetic derivatives of lincomycin. These compounds inhibit bacterial protein synthesis by blocking the catalytic ribosomal peptidyl transferase center (PTC), which is responsible for the formation of peptide bonds joining the amino acids.
