Captopril is an ACE inhibitor used to treat hypertension and heart failure by blocking the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II. It contains a reactive thiol group that enhances its binding affinity but contributes to distinctive odor and skin-sensitivity reactions. Captopril is frequently used in pharmacokinetic modeling because of its rapid absorption, short half-life, and predictable renal clearance.
