Introduction
Interleukin-13 receptor subunit alpha-2 (IL-13Rα2) is a high-affinity receptor for interleukin-13 (IL-13), a cytokine involved in immune regulation, inflammation, and tumor biology. Unlike IL-13Rα1, which forms a signaling receptor complex with IL-4Rα, IL-13Rα2 lacks a functional intracellular signaling domain and primarily acts as a decoy receptor, regulating IL-13 availability and signaling intensity. IL-13Rα2 is expressed in various tissues, including the lungs, liver, and reproductive organs, and is notably overexpressed in several types of cancers such as glioblastoma, pancreatic, and colorectal carcinomas. Due to its restricted expression in normal tissues and high expression in tumors, IL-13Rα2 has become an attractive target for cancer immunotherapy and diagnostic applications.
