The test is a qualitative micromethod employing biochemical apporaches for the identification of E. coli O157:H7 . It can also be used for validating known laboratory strains.
Storage
The microwell strips are stable in the room temperature away from sunlight for one year. Triple Sugar Iron (TSI) is stable at 2-8 °C away from sunlight for 1 year.
General Description
Escherichia coli O157:H7 typically causes foodborne illness of the "colonic escherichiosis" type, through consumption of contaminated and raw food, including raw milk, which may lead to hemorrhagic diarrhea, and to kidney failure. E. coli O157:H7 produces numerous other putative virulence factors, the most notable of which is Shiga toxin (Stx).
