TINCR (Tissue Differentiation-Inducing Non-Protein Coding RNA) is an RNA Gene, and is affiliated with the non-coding RNA class. This gene produces a spliced long non-coding RNA that is required for normal epidermal differentiation. This transcript regulates the expression of genes involved in the differentiation of epidermal tissue. Mutations in some of the genes targeted by this transcript have been implicated in epidermal skin diseases.
This locus is inferred to be non-protein-coding based on the observations that a) there is no homology support for predicted open reading frames; and b) the location of the longer predicted open reading frame renders the transcript a candidate for nonsense-mediated decay (NMD) as the stop codon is >50 nucleotides upstream of the terminal splice site.
