Abstract
Seven new coordination compounds with 6-methylpicolinic acid (6-HMepic) and rhodium(III) or copper (II) of formula [Rh(6-mepic)(3)] (1), [Ith(6-Mepic)(2)(H2O)Cl] (2), [Rh(6-HMepic)(6-Mepic)Cl-2].3.5(H2O) (3), [Cu(6-Mepic)(2)(H2O)].H2O (4), [Cu(6-Mepic)(2)](n), (5), [Cu(6-Mepic)(6-HMepic)I] (6) and [Cu(6-Mepic)(6HMepic)Cl] (7) have been obtained. Their syntheses have been rationalized, and their structural and supramolecular characteristics have been studied and compared with other similar rhodium and copper picolinate complexes previously reported, in order to stablish structural correlations and analogies. The electrical properties of coordination polymeri[Cu(6-Mepic)(2)](n) (5) have been also analyzed and it has been found that it shows a moderated electrical transport along the chain. Abstract
The reaction of picolinic acid (HA) with NiCl2.6H(2)A affords a nickel(II) complex, [NiA(2)(H2O)(2)]1 (A: picolinic acid ion), which has been characterized by using physics-chemical and spectroscopic methods. Electrochemical investigations shows that 1 can act as a homogeneous electrocatalyst for water reduction in a purely aqueous medium. 1 catalyzes hydrogen evolution from a neutral water (pH 7.0) with a turnover frequency (TOF) of 568 mol of hydrogen per mole of catalyst per hour at an overpotential (OP) of 687.6 mV. To prove that the combination of nickel center and picolinic ion is the key structural feature for eliciting proton or water reduction catalysis, we also investigate the electro-catalytic activities of [NiA(2)(H2O)(2)] 1 and Ni(Ac)(2).2H(2)O and provide a possible catalytic mechanism for hydrogen generation by this nickel complex. The result also exhibits that nickel center constitutes the better active catalyst than the cobalt sample with same ligands. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
