The protein encoded by this gene is a hormone secreted by parathyroid cells. This hormone elevates blood Ca2+ level by dissolving the salts in bone and preventing their renal excretion. Defects in this gene are a cause of familial isolated hypoparathyroidism (FIH).

CdSe reinforced polythiophene nanocomposites as excellent materials for diode applications
EXPRESS POLYMER LETTERS
Authors: Singh, R.; Shrivastava, A. K.; Bajpai, A. K.
In the present work, nano-rods of mixed semiconductors were reinforced to conducting polymers to get their composites. CdSe semiconductor nanoparticles were reinforced into the conducting polymer polythiophene (PTh) at room temperature following an oxidation polymerization method. This method was rapid, cost effective and produced larger yield of polymer. X-ray diffraction (XRD) data of composites revealed that the crystallite size was of the order of 45 47 nm. Field emission scanning electron microscopic (FESEM) analysis showed horizontal cross section of CdSe nanoparticles after they were embedded into the PTh matrix. In the composites phase, the nano-rods of CdSe were seen lying over the PTh matrix. UV-Vis spectral studies showed reduction in the energy band gap from 3.05 eV of native PTh to 2.26 eV of PTh/CdSe nanocomposites I-V plots of nanocomposites comprising of p-type PTh and n-type CdSe showed similar characteristics as those of the junction diode. The DC conductivity and short circuit current (J(sc)) of PTh/CdSe nanocomposites indicated drastic changes as compared to those of the pure PTh. Since, I-V plot of nanocomposites phase resembled well with that of a junction diode, the as-synthesized materials has potential to be used in diode applications.
NIR-Triggered Hyperthermal Effect of Polythiophene Nanoparticles Synthesized by Surfactant-Free Oxidative Polymerization Method on Colorectal Carcinoma Cells
In this work, polythiophene nanoparticles (PTh-NPs) were synthesized by a surfactant-free oxidative chemical polymerization method at 60 degrees C, using ammonium persulphate as an oxidant. Various physicochemical properties were studied in terms of field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infra-red (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)/thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Photothermal performance of the as-synthesized PTh-NPs was studied by irradiating near infra-red of 808 nm under different concentration of the substrate and power supply. The photothermal stability of PTh-NPs was also studied. Photothermal effects of the as-synthesized PTh-NPs on colorectal cancer cells (CT-26) were studied at 100 mu g/mL concentration and 808 nm NIR irradiation of 2.0 W/cm(2) power. Our in vitro results showed remarkable NIR laser-triggered photothermal apoptotic cell death by PTh-NPs. Based on the experimental findings, it is revealed that PTh-NPs can act as a heat mediator and can be an alternative material for photothermal therapy in cancer treatment.
