General Notes
This product (Catalog No. DPABH-01208) is a rabbit-derived polyclonal antibody raised against human OR52N1. It has been affinity purified by Protein A. OR52N1 is a protein-coding gene in humans that encodes the olfactory receptor 52N1, a G protein-coupled receptor with seven transmembrane domains responsible for interacting with odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium to trigger neuronal responses and initiate the perception of smell. The OR52N1 gene belongs to the largest multigene family in the human genome, comprising over 800 olfactory receptor genes clustered in various chromosomal regions, and like other members of this superfamily, it features a single coding exon within a two-exon structure. Located on the short arm of chromosome 11 at position 11p15.4 (GRCh38.p14 coordinates: NC_000011.10:5786471-5791265, complement strand), it spans approximately 4.8 kb and produces a 320-amino-acid protein of molecular mass 35.8 kDa. Functionally, OR52N1, also known by aliases such as OR11-61, contributes to odorant signal recognition and transduction via G protein-mediated pathways, sharing structural and signaling similarities with receptors for neurotransmitters and hormones. Expression of OR52N1 is primarily observed in olfactory sensory neurons within the nose, underscoring its role in the vertebrate olfactory system, though some olfactory receptors exhibit ectopic expression in non-olfactory tissues. Variations in OR52N1 have been associated with conditions like Seckel syndrome and spondylocarpotarsal synostosis syndrome. As part of the class A (rhodopsin-like) GPCRs, it exemplifies the evolutionary expansion of olfactory capabilities in mammals, with validated RefSeq transcripts (NM_001001913.2 → NP_001001913.1) confirming its protein-coding status.
DPABH-01208 is suitable for use in WB 1 (500-1:1000), IF/ICC 1 (100-1:500) applications.
