General Notes
This product (Catalog No. DPABH-01387) is a rabbit-derived polyclonal antibody raised against human OR4X1. It has been affinity purified by Protein A. OR4X1 is a protein-coding gene in humans that encodes the olfactory receptor 4X1 (OR4X1), a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) expressed in the olfactory epithelium of the nasal cavity, where it interacts with odorant molecules to initiate neuronal responses essential for the perception of smell. This receptor belongs to the largest gene superfamily in the human genome, comprising over 800 olfactory receptor genes, many of which arose from single-exon structures and share a conserved 7-transmembrane domain architecture similar to other GPCRs involved in neurotransmitter and hormone signaling. A distinctive feature of OR4X1 is its status as a segregating pseudogene, meaning genetic polymorphisms result in allelic variation across individuals: some carry a functional protein-coding allele, while others possess a non-functional pseudogene version that does not produce a viable receptor protein. The OR4X1 gene is located on the short arm of chromosome 11 at position 11p11.2 (GRCh38.p14 coordinates: NC_000011.10:48,263,861-48,264,778), spanning a single exon of approximately 924 base pairs. Also known by the alias OR11-104, it exemplifies the evolutionary dynamics of the olfactory receptor family, where pseudogenization in some lineages reflects adaptations in olfactory capabilities, though functional OR4X1 contributes to odor discrimination in those with intact alleles. While direct disease associations are limited, variants in OR4X1 and related olfactory genes have been implicated in studies of traits such as pulmonary function metrics (e.g., FEV1/FVC ratios) and recurrent pregnancy loss, highlighting broader roles in sensory and physiological processes.
DPABH-01387 is suitable for use in WB 1 (500-1:1000), IF/ICC 1 (100-1:500) applications.
DPABH-01387 is supplied as a liquid formulation in Phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, 150mM NaCl, 0.02% sodium azide and 50% glycerol. For long-term storage, keep at −20 °C. For short-term use, store at 2–8 °C. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles to maintain antibody integrity and performance.
