General Notes
This product (Catalog No. DPABH-24241) is a rabbit-derived polyclonal antibody raised against human OR4D6. It has been affinity purified by Protein A. OR4D6 is a protein-coding gene in humans that encodes the olfactory receptor 4D6, a seven-transmembrane G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) primarily expressed in olfactory sensory neurons of the nose, where it binds odorant molecules to trigger neuronal signaling and the perception of smell. As part of the largest gene family in the human genome, comprising over 400 olfactory receptor genes, OR4D6 belongs to subfamily 4D and shares a conserved structure with other GPCRs, including a single coding exon and rhodopsin-like transmembrane domains. The gene is located on the forward strand of chromosome 11 at position 11q12.1 (GRCh38 coordinates: 59,456,961-59,457,905), spanning approximately 945 base pairs. Its protein product, a 314-amino-acid polypeptide, facilitates odor detection through coupling with G proteins to activate downstream cyclic AMP signaling pathways in olfactory cilia. Notably, OR4D6 has been identified as a receptor sensitive to musk odorants, particularly the polycyclic synthetic musk Galaxolide, with genetic variations in the gene linked to individual differences in musk perception intensity. This specificity highlights its role in decoding complex olfactory cues, contributing to the diversity of human smell perception. While primarily studied in the context of olfaction, the gene shows conservation across mammals, including mice (as Olfr1428), underscoring its evolutionary importance in sensory biology.
DPABH-24241 is suitable for use in IHC 1 (50-1:200), WB 1 (500-1:1000), IF/ICC 1 (100-1:500) applications.
