General Notes
This product (Catalog No. DPABH-27138) is a rabbit-derived polyclonal antibody raised against human OR11G2. It has been affinity purified by Protein A. OR11G2 is a protein-coding gene in humans that encodes the olfactory receptor 11G2, a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nasal cavity to initiate the neuronal response underlying smell perception. This receptor belongs to the large family of olfactory receptors, which constitute the largest gene family in the human genome and share a characteristic seven-transmembrane domain structure similar to other GPCRs involved in neurotransmitter and hormone signaling. The OR11G2 gene is located on the long arm of chromosome 14 at position 14q11.2, spanning approximately 10.2 kb with two exons (one coding) in the GRCh38.p14 reference assembly. It is also known by the alias OR14-34 and arises from single coding-exon genes typical of the olfactory receptor superfamily, enabling rapid evolution and diversity to accommodate a wide range of odorants. Genetic variations, including polymorphisms, can result in either functional protein-coding alleles or non-coding pseudogenes, contributing to individual differences in olfactory sensitivity. Functionally, OR11G2 participates in the olfactory signaling pathway by binding specific odorants, activating G proteins, and triggering intracellular cascades that transmit signals to the brain via olfactory neurons. Expression is primarily restricted to olfactory epithelium in the nose, underscoring its specialized role in chemosensation rather than broader physiological processes. While not extensively studied individually due to the redundancy in the olfactory repertoire, the receptor's involvement in GPCR-mediated odorant transduction highlights its importance in the mammalian sense of smell.
DPABH-27138 is suitable for use in WB 1 (500-1:1000), IF/ICC 1 (100-1:500) applications.
