General Notes
This product (Catalog No. DPABH-24339) is a rabbit-derived polyclonal antibody raised against human OR10G4. It has been affinity purified by Protein A. OR10G4 is a protein-coding gene in humans that encodes the olfactory receptor 10G4, a member of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nasal cavity to initiate the neuronal signaling pathway for smell perception. This gene, identified by Gene ID 390264 and also known as OR11-278, belongs to the olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily G and is characterized by a single coding exon typical of this gene class. The OR10G4 gene is located on the forward strand of chromosome 11 at position 11q24.2 (GRCh38.p14: NC_000011.10 (124012997..124018732)), spanning approximately 5.7 kb with two exons in total. Like other olfactory receptors, the protein product features seven transmembrane domains and functions by binding odorants, which activates heterotrimeric G proteins to transduce signals within olfactory sensory neurons. OR10G4 is one of nearly 400 functional olfactory receptor genes in the human genome, the largest such family, contributing to the broad repertoire of scent detection. Expression of OR10G4 is primarily restricted to olfactory tissues, such as the nasal epithelium, aligning with its role in chemosensory detection. Although no specific diseases are directly associated with OR10G4 variants in current databases, the gene has been implicated in broader genomic studies on olfactory receptor variability and signaling pathways, including those related to sensory perception and potential influences on behaviors like smoking cessation. Research continues to explore the ligand specificity and evolutionary aspects of OR10G4 within the context of human olfaction.
