Product Background

Gene summary
FTSJ1 (FtsJ RNA Methyltransferase Homolog 1 (E. Coli)) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with FTSJ1 include non-syndromic x-linked intellectual disability. GO annotations related to this gene include methyltransferase activity and tRNA methyltransferase activity. This gene encodes a member of the methyltransferase superfamily. The encoded protein localizes to the nucleolus, binds to S-adenosylmethionine, and may be involved in the processing and modification of ribosomal RNA. Mutations in this gene are associated with mental retardation. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
Antigen Description
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the S-adenosylmethionine-binding protein family. It is a nucleolar protein and may be involved in the processing and modification of rRNA. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene. Mental retardation, X-linked 44 (MRX44) [MIM:309549]: A disorder characterized by significantly below average general intellectual functioning associated with impairments in adaptive behavior and manifested during the developmental period. Intellectual deficiency is the only primary symptom of non-syndromic X-linked mental retardation, while syndromic mental retardation presents with associated physical, neurological and/or psychiatric manifestations. Note=The disease is caused by mutations affecting the gene represented in this entry. Putative ribosomal RNA methyltransferase 1 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the FTSJ1 gene. 0The function about FTSJ1 antigen include methyltransferase activity; nucleic acid binding; transferase activity.
